Last summer, I participated in a community volunteer program, which left a deep impression on me. Our task was to assist elderly residents living alone in our neighborhood.
We visited Mr. Li, a retired teacher in his seventies. His children worked in other cities, so he often felt lonely. Initially, we just helped with some cleaning. However, I soon realized he needed more than physical help; he needed companionship. So, we started spending time chatting with him. He enjoyed sharing stories from his teaching years, his eyes sparkling with joy as he spoke. We also taught him how to use a smartphone to make video calls with his family, which thrilled him immensely.
This experience taught me the true meaning of volunteering. It’s not just about offering labor; it’s about giving care, respect, and heartfelt warmth. Helping others not only brings them comfort but also enriches our own lives with a sense of fulfillment and purpose. I believe that if everyone contributes a little love, our society will become a much warmer and better place.
