Lesson Plan for Junior High School English Speaking Class

Topic: Describing Daily Routines

Grade Level: Grade 7

Duration: 45 minutes

Teaching Objectives:

1. Students will learn key vocabulary about daily activities (e.g., get up, brush teeth, go to school).

2. Students will be able to describe their daily routines using simple present tense.

3. Students will practice asking and answering questions about daily habits.

Teaching Materials:

  • PowerPoint slides with pictures of daily activities
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Handouts with a sample dialogue
  • Teaching Process:

    1. Warm-up (5 minutes)

  • Greet students and show pictures of morning routines.
  • Ask: "What do you do in the morning?" Let students shout out words they know.
  • 2. Presentation (15 minutes)

  • Introduce new verbs: wake up, eat breakfast, take a bus, study, play sports.
  • Drill pronunciation; students repeat after the teacher.
  • Write example sentences on the board: "I wake up at 6:00. I brush my teeth at 6:10."
  • 3. Practice (15 minutes)

  • Pair work: Students ask each other "What time do you...?" using a handout with a sample dialogue.
  • Role-play: Two students come to the front, act out their routines.
  • Game: "Guess the activity" — one student mimes an action, others guess in English.
  • 4. Production (10 minutes)

  • Each student writes three sentences about their own daily routine.
  • Volunteers share their sentences with the class.
  • Quick review: Teacher asks random students about their habits.
  • Homework:

Draw a timeline of your day and label each activity in English.

    Blackboard Design:

    Daily Routines

  • wake up
  • brush teeth
  • eat breakfast
  • go to school
  • study English
  • play basketball
  • Key Sentence:

    I ______ at ______ o’clock.

    What time do you ______?

    Teaching Reflection:

(Note: This section is for teacher’s use only, not part of student-facing lesson.)

Vocabulary practice was engaging, but some students struggled with time expressions. Next class, add more clock-based drills. Pair work activity was successful — students enjoyed the interaction.
