Last summer, my family and I took a week-long trip to Hainan, China's tropical island paradise. It was the escape from city life I desperately needed.
We flew into Haikou and immediately felt the warm, humid air. Our first three days were spent in Sanya. The highlight was the beach at Yalong Bay. The sand was incredibly soft, like powdered sugar under my feet, and the sea was a dazzling shade of turquoise. I spent hours just swimming, building sandcastles with my little sister, and collecting unique shells. One afternoon, we went snorkeling. Floating above the coral reefs, I felt like I was in a different world, surrounded by schools of colorful, darting fish. It was pure magic.
After Sanya, we drove to the less crowded Wenchang. My dad, a space enthusiast, was thrilled to visit the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center. Seeing the massive launch towers up close was awe-inspiring. We also got to taste the famous Wenchang chicken, which was surprisingly tender and flavorful. The best part of this leg was visiting the Dongjiao Coconut Plantation. We rode bikes through endless rows of tall coconut trees, the sunlight filtering through the leaves in beautiful patterns. Climbing a tree to pick a fresh coconut to drink was a fun and challenging experience.
Our final stop was the volcanic geopark in Haikou. Hiking up the ancient crater made me appreciate the island's natural history. The views from the top were breathtaking—lush green landscapes stretching all the way to the coast. That evening, we explored the Qilou Old Streets, enjoying local snacks like mango shaved ice and soaking in the charming, historical atmosphere.
This vacation was perfect because it mixed relaxation with adventure. I returned home not just with a suntan and souvenirs, but with a camera full of beautiful memories and a much more relaxed mind. Hainan truly is a little slice of heaven.
