Good morning, everyone. Today I'm going to present my lesson plan for a unit titled "Hobbies and Interests" designed for middle school students at a pre-intermediate level.
一、教学目标 (Teaching Objectives)
1. Knowledge Aim: Students will be able to master key vocabulary and phrases related to hobbies (e.g., collect stamps, play chess, be fond of, be keen on).
2. Ability Aim: Students will develop their speaking and listening skills by asking and answering questions about hobbies using the target structures: "What's your hobby?" "I enjoy..." "Are you interested in...?
3. Emotional Aim: To encourage students to share personal interests and appreciate diverse hobbies, fostering classroom community.
二、教学重点难点 (Key and Difficult Points)
Key Point: Accurate use of hobby-related vocabulary and sentence patterns in dialogues.
Difficult Point: Distinguishing and correctly using different expressions like "like doing," "enjoy doing," and "be interested in.
三、教学过程 (Teaching Procedures)
Step 1: Warm-up & Lead-in (5 mins)
Start with a quick game: "Guess the Hobby." I'll perform simple actions (like pretending to take a photo, read a book). Students guess the hobby in English. This grabs attention and introduces the topic naturally.
Step 2: Presentation (15 mins)
Use flashcards and PPT to present new vocabulary (painting, hiking, gardening, etc.). Drill pronunciation chorally and individually.
Write key sentence patterns on the board: "What are your hobbies?" "I am keen on..." "My favorite hobby is..." Explain the grammar briefly, focusing on the verb patterns that follow (gerunds).
Step 3: Practice (20 mins)
Controlled Practice: Pair work. Students use the provided word list and sentence frames to create simple dialogues. I'll monitor and correct errors.
Less Controlled Practice: "Find Someone Who..." activity. Students get a worksheet with statements like "Find someone who enjoys singing." They must walk around, ask questions, and write classmates' names. This gets them moving and speaking.
Step 4: Production & Consolidation (15 mins)
In small groups, students create a short survey about hobbies, then interview 2-3 group members.
Volunteers present a brief summary of their group's findings to the class (e.g., "In our group, Tom likes swimming, and Lisa loves drawing.").
Finally, give a short listening exercise (a recorded conversation about hobbies) and a simple worksheet for in-class completion to consolidate.
Step 5: Homework Assignment (5 mins)
Ask students to write 5-6 sentences about their own and a family member's hobbies. Next lesson, a few will share.
四、板书设计 (Blackboard Design)
Unit 3: Hobbies and Interests
Key Words: Key Sentences:
painting - Are you keen on (music)?
